Two weeks

Los Angeles-based entrepreneur Dale Godboldo approached me looking for a way to bring all his creative and financial interests under one umbrella. He wanted a Web site that would help him promote his brand, reach, and goals as a businessman, artist, and philanthropist to the entertainment and financing sectors. In addition, press release campaigns and investor meetings were driving a very tight deadline.

To meet the deadline, I was forced to take some design and development shortcuts. At the time I began this project, I was still new to HTML5 and didn’t have time to research as I went, so I relied on my prior knowledge and built the site using XHTML. I also took a brief look at the Web sites of other entertainment companies and holdings organizations to see what appealed most to their audiences, and used the results of this research to organize the site’s content in a way that was visually pleasing and accessible, yet didn’t require a lot of development time.

Dale says the feedback on the site has been great. However, now that there’s more time to focus, a redesign is in progress. The new site will feature a responsive layout, a more intuitive navigational structure, and an updated interface. It will be coded using the latest standards in HTML5 and CSS3, and, as is always the case with my work, built with accessibility, usability, and cross-browser compatibility in mind.

Timeline Four months

When their site launched, Honey! Creative was a fledgling commercial production house. Now, not only have they started up, they've gunned their engines and streaked off down the freeway, taking some high-powered clients along for the ride.

All Honey! co-founder Dan Evans was looking for was a simple yet sophisticated Web presence to showcase the projects he and business partner Barbara Rider had completed for clients thus far. Dan came to me already armed with a company identity, an abstract “honeybee” concept in which the dominant color was black. So imagine my surprise when he announced that no black was to be incorporated into the site design.

Luckily, a solution evolved over time – a more monochromatic color palette and an interface that recalled the “honeybee” stripes from Dan’s business card.

Unfortunately, Dan and Barbara are now too busy to write a testimonial for me. But maybe that’s testimony enough?

Timeline Two months

Candlelight Media had already established a Web presence for the initial release of Everything You Want in October of 2004. But two years later, with a DVD release date looming, I felt it was important to create another promotional site that was truly engaging—a product that echoed the spirit of the film and provided visitors with exclusive information that would genuinely interest and excite them.

As it turned out, Painted-Love.net was a hit even before it launched—initial response to my marketing survey was so overwhelming that an interim site had to be created to handle the activity.

Following the launch, we tracked nearly 1,000 unique visitors and almost 40 mailing list registrations by the end of the first month.

Timeline Six weeks

The official B & B film site was more of a collaborative effort than my previous projects had been. The home page was designed almost exclusively by the client, so I set to work bringing out the look and feel of the film through design elements on the subpages. I matched the elegance and sophistication of the main character’s house and furnishings with graceful script and serif fonts as well as delicate, intricate shapes.

I also took the color palette from the home page down a few notches to allow the photography, typefaces, and graphics to stand out. In addition, I created the top two computer wallpaper designs on the downloads page.

Beautybeastmovie.com received a great deal of traffic from the day it was launched, and CMG considers the site a success.

Timeline Two months

A licensed massage therapist and bodyworker, Laura approached me while looking for new ways to promote her practice. Informing her audience about her skills and experience and educating her potential clients were her key marketing goals from the very beginning, and while she had already established herself in her community through a brochure and a business card, she was ready to take her message to the Web.

Keeping the importance of the content in mind, I designed a simple interface that wouldn’t detract from the information and would introduce Laura as a helpful, upbeat, positive professional with a holistic approach to her work.
